Young Women's Agriculture Cooperative - Expansion

Year: 2015
Country: Morocco
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Economic Opportunity
Project Investment: $15,000.00

Project Launch: 12-18-15

This project is an expansion of a successful, World Connect project which helped nearly 30 young mothers begin an agricultural cooperative focused on raising goats and selling goat milk for profit. Due to the success of the project and the impact on the young mothers' lives, this project is being expanded in an innovative partnership between World Connect and the INDH, the leading economic development organization in Morocco.

The expansion involves the construction of new, professional stables and the acquisition of high-production milk cows, in addition to goats, to quadruple the number of women impacted by the Youth Cooperative in Agriculture of Imouzzer-Kandar. Project leaders’ goal is for 100 women to receive milk daily from the cows as well as income from the sale of the milk to the local processing facility.

Project Update: 6-24-16

~4.5 acres of fertile farmland, valued at $65,000 was donated as the site of the project. More than 100 women have been trained in both livestock and management and the project is moving forward despite political turmoil in Morocco following 2016 elections.
