The community of Nuevo Gualcho, situated in Northern Usulutan, El Salvador, is very rural and made up of refugees from the civil war twenty years ago. The youth group of Quetzalcoatl of the community of Nuevo Gualcho, formed in last few years in recognition of limited education and job opportunities, applied for funding to allow them to take advantage of all of the opportunity that technology offers. The youth group works on project to better the community and runs dance team, a band, and has a few kids learning videography. These kids are organized and self-motivated, deciding when to meet and where to practice. A $496 grant was provided by World Connect’s Kids to Kids program to buy the group a computer and to provide technology skills training. Youth group members were taught basic computer skills such as typing, Microsoft Works, and how to use the Internet.
