Eco-Clubs in Puente Piedra, Peru
Project Launch:
In 2011, World Connect awarded a small grant to the primary school of Puente Piedra for a project to initiate environmental education and service at the school. The project was very successful and generated great interest in the community, particularly at the community's secondary school. To further this success, World Connect is providing a second round of funding to the Puente Piedra community to establish sustainable environmental clubs at both the primary and secondary schools. The Clubs, once established, will focus on creating five sustainable service project in their community: a hydroponic garden, a tree farm, worm composting, an environmental mural and a trash management program. The project will generate income for the schools and the Clubs by selling recycling, worm compost and the harvests from the gardens.
