Solar Energy to Advance Girls' Education
Project Launch: 1-6-16
This project will provide an energy upgrade to the Bishop Abiero Girls’ Secondary School, which is located in a rural area of Kenya where there is no running water and limited electricity. In 2012, with World Connect’s support, the school installed a wind turbine, providing the school and surrounding community with renewable energy. To capitalize on this momentum and wave of environmental stewardship, the project is now expanding to include solar energy, under the guidance of a Kenyan-based company, and will ensure sustainable benefits to the local economy, the students and teachers, and the land. For example, with reliable electricity, the students can study for longer hours and the school’s electricity bills will decrease.
