The community of San Antonio Bajo in Peru is in the middle of a populated center, adjacent to the highway. The health center is central in the area and serves five communities in all. With a $473 grant from World Connect's Kids to Kids Program in 2011, an early child development project was launched to teach mothers how and why their children would benefit from greater stimulation of their various physical abilities: vision/hearing, mental capacity, social skills, and emotions. The locally-initiated project created a Center for Attention of Child Development, a space where mothers can meet and use communal resources, and be given individual consultations on their child's development, both physical and emotional with follow up to include an in-home visit two weeks later.
