Ngalama Village Road Project in Zambia
Project Launch: 2-6-17
Ngalama Village is located 10 kilometers away from the nearest paved major road. The existing road, an unlevel, unimproved, unpaved bush path, is treacherous and challenging to traverse for farmers, motorcyclists, and animals as well as sick and pregnant villagers. This is especially complicated in the rainy season which floods sections of the path and erodes its shoulders along a fair amount of its length. The lack of an improved road is a major impediment to the village's growth and development. This project seeks to establish a graded formal road for village use so as to increase access to services and markets.
Final Report: 8-4-17
The road has been established after weather-related setbacks that delayed grading. Much wider than the previous path, the road can now support greater volume. Today, the new artery is in service, allowing drivers, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bicyclists to take advantage of vastly safer travel as well as reduced temporal distance from services and markets.
