Playing, I Learn
Year: 2010
Country: Peru
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
The Ludoteca Project took place in a volunteer-run afterschool program for the children in a rural, farming community in Peru. By using games, learning stations, and group activities, the 100 regularly attending kids (ages 4 – 12) received the chance to learn by playing. In this particular community, there are few parks or safe open spaces and the schools and homes can be pretty strict and limiting of a child’s creativity. But in the Ludoteca center, children were given the freedom of expression with this project. They could choose which learning station they preferred, be it arts and crafts, sports, or puzzles. They participated in special events like an Environment Day parade and a health campaign, and they received tutoring on their homework. Most importantly, these children explored and discovered their abilities, shared ideas, and enjoyed learning in a fun, safe environment.Explore other Projects
