Project Launch:

The rural community of El Higueron de Upala has one small health center that opens only twice per month when a doctor is able to visit from a nearby urban area. On these days, folks from El Higueron and surrounding communities line up for treatment for various ailments. The health center is a source of great pride and is cared for by a dedicated community health committee who built a basic kitchen attached to the center in which the health committee prepares and sells nutritious meals on days when the doctor visits the community. With World Connect's support, the health committee will be able to expand operations at the community kitchen and sell more nutritious meals, increasing funds for the health center, and lead a series of workshops and cooking classes for women focused on nutrition and healthy eating at home.
