In 2008 World Connect’s Kids to Kids program provided a $647 grant to support the Boys and Girl scouts in Costa Rica, which supported community improvement building project, environmental awareness and sustainability workshops, and hiking and nature expeditions. This project took place in a small rural community that relies primarily on agriculture and livestock as its primary source of income. There is a primary school is located in town but except for soccer, there aren’t many activities in the school or community for children. Project leaders report that the children who joined the club shed their original nervousness and became more confident and excited about the club and what it offers them. The children participate in activities such as tree planting, singing club songs, game playing, and service learning project. Young members of the club have demonstrated interest in becoming youth leaders as they get older.
