Clean water Access (ISUKU NA MAZI MEZA)
Project Launch: 12-19-22
The project will provide access to clean water to 332 households (approx. 1,660 people) across the villages of Rutonde, Gasave, Kavumu and Masoro in Bijyojyo cell of Ndaro sector, Ngororero district in the Western Province of Rwanda. The community currently fetches dirty water from valley streams and swamps at a distance of 2-3 hours. With funding from this project, water will be captured from an underground source on the top of the hill and 1.6km piping will be laid in the ground to bring water down the hill to the villages. Four water access points will be constructed in the villages reducing the travel distance to fetch water from 3 hour to less than 20 minutes, a burden that has been on the shoulders of women and children giving them more time to attend to family and study. Access to clean water will also reduce hygiene and sanitation in the villages hence reducing hygiene-related illnesses especially among children.
