Awareness against harassment of girls, greenhouse gardening and building for student's support and development fund in Jali, Zomba
Project Launch: 9-9-21
Using $4,887.25, the Little Big Prints will work collaboratively with students, Parents and Teachers Association and Mother Support Group to establish a school backyard greenhouse garden using recycled plastic bottles and construct one commercial building with three rental shops at the nearby trading centre. The income generated from these interventions will allow 350 students from Namisonga CDSS to finish their secondary school education through provision of scholarships and scholastics materials. To deal with increasing cases of school related gender based violence, the project will incorporate gender based violence education to students, and mother groups that manage the school affairs.
Project Update: 4-5-22
Led by Little Big Prints, the project has trained 27 girls in Forms 1 and 3 at Namisonga Community Day Secondary School in greenhouse establishment and vegetable production. The training, which lasted for five days, equipped the participants with knowledge of establishing a greenhouse using plastic bottles, growing vegetables, project management and involvement of key stakeholders in project activities. After the training, the project commenced the construction of a greenhouse structure using over 100 recycled plastic bottles that have been inserted to cover its walls. The structure is still being erected after which vegetables will be grown for sale in the community. This multifaceted project is also constructing three 2*2 meters shops which are now at window level. The project participants are hopeful that once the project activities are completed, a scholarship fund that will benefit students will be established from the sale of vegetables and rentals of the shops.
