Aprendiendo a Vivir Bien (Learning to Live Well)
Project Launch:
A $500 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program supported a community health fair that provided basic information to residents of Quezalapa, El Salvador on different topics such as diabetes, blood pressure, personal and dental hygiene, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, women’s health, how to properly wash fruits and vegetables, and proper care of water receptacles. Health fairs are important for all age groups but this one was essential for children because they were particularly targeted, at their young ages, with guidance on how to take better care of themselves. Opening the childrens’ eyes to preventative care now increases the likelihood that they will grow up to be health conscious adults and teach their own children how to take good care of themselves. The entire community benefited from the health fair. Local children are now a part of the process of improving the well-being of their community and can guide their parents as to what they can do to take better care of themselves and their families.
