Year: 2011
Country: Peru
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $499.29
Project Launch:
In Vice, Peru, children do not have the opportunity to play on organized sports teams at their schools and exercise is not common. Little girls are more often found at home doing chores than out on the playgrounds with friends. Many of them are extremely shy and do not have the courage to speak their minds. The goal of Vóley para Vice, supported in 2011 with a grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program, was to inspire a cultural change in this small coastal town in northern Peru through the creation of a volleyball league for girls between the ages of 10 and 16. By learning how to play a sport like volleyball, 40 girls gained confidence in themselves through their abilities. They learned the importance of teamwork by being part of a league and a team and they are now more likely to lead healthy and active lives because they understand the importance of physical activity and can now share these values with friends and family.Explore other Projects
