The Paradise Community Band
Project Launch: 8-8-19
The Paraiso Community Band is an organization in Costa Rica that provides extracurricular music education for adults and youth outside of school hours. The participants learned how to play using instruments which they borrowed from the school system during a months-long national teacher’s strike. Now that school is back in session, the band does not have access to the instruments on a regular basis. With the support of this World Connect grant, the organization plans to purchase new instruments and provide workshops for youth band members on topics such as community leadership. The band, led by a qualified conductor, will continue to focus on participating in local and regional marching band and musical activities. This program will empower the youth participants to practice teamwork and leadership in their community.
