About this Project
The Kawoq community organization aims to reduce migration and family separation by creating development alternatives within the community. To achieve this, the organization promotes and implements entrepreneurship workshops in sewing and carpentry, providing basic tools that allow participants to learn a trade, start small businesses, and generate their own income. The medium- and long-term objective is for beneficiaries to improve their quality of life, strengthen the local economy, and maintain family unity.
In addition to its economic focus, the initiative also promotes the active participation of women and youth in community development. Educational talks will be implemented in schools and directed at students from different grade levels. The purpose is for young people to learn about and value traditional clothing, the Maya language, and Guatemalan culture, fostering respect for and pride in their cultural roots. The Kawoq group also plans to offer folk dance classes for youth and single mothers in the community. Dance is a form of expression that strengthens cultural identity, encourages discipline and teamwork, and at the same time provides spaces for recreation and learning.
