Simbi Library

Year: 2017
Country: Rwanda
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $7,732.47

Project Launch: 8-28-17

Simbi Village, Rwanda is home to G.S. Simbi School which has 1,415 students and 22 classrooms. However, there is no space for students to sit and read and many of the available books are outdated textbooks. This project proposes the establishment of a permanent library space that will enable students, teachers, and residents of the surrounding community to convene for important meetings, to study and use current materials in a functional space, and create better futures, one book at a time.

Project Update: 11-2-17

All construction materials were purchased and the building was erected on grounds prepared by parents and community members surrounding the school as planned. The community is preparing a local artist to create a mural about the importance of reading on the side of the building to make it more attractive and enticing, an addition made at the suggestion of the library committee. The next phase of the project will involve procuring books and furniture for the new space. The project participants are organizing books the school has agreed to contribute and are training the library staff and teachers on library best practices and operation.
