Seeds to Stomach
Year: 2010
Country: Peru
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $270.00
Project Launch:
In the Seeds to Stomach project in San Juan de Lacamaca, Peru, supported with a $108 grant from World Connect's Kids to Kids Program in 2010, mothers and children learned a number of healthy and nutritious ways to prevent malnutrition in their community. First, they established a community organic garden with the support of a local agricultural engineer. Kids were put in charge of maintaining the garden, and were then tasked with taking their knowledge home and establishing small gardens with their families. The community’s garden successfully produced spinach, Swiss chard, beets, carrots and radishes. Mothers in the community were also brought together alongside a nurse and nutritionist from the local health center to learn about preventing malnutrition. They covered topics such as hygiene, nutrition, maintaining a healthy home, and sanitary food preparation. They were also able to organize cooking classes for all families to teach recipes for the new healthy foods.Explore other Projects
