About this Project
This is a project led by and for women. It will train 11 women from Santa Lucía Utatlán in traditional embroidery, enabling them to develop technical skills that will allow them to generate sustainable income for their families.
The project includes three training phases, each consisting of 12 sessions: Basic embroidery, Embroidery for huipil necklines, and Drawing and creation of original designs. After the initial training, the participants will teach 25 mothers, and the first artisan cooperative will be formed. This cooperative will continue to be led by the 11 founding women, who will train and mentor new participants, creating a multiplier effect of economic empowerment and women’s leadership.
In this project, the organization Nuya’ will serve as a strategic partner, providing ongoing supervision, additional training, support in identifying local and international markets, and assistance with logistics and resources. The goal is for these women to increase their family incomes, share knowledge with other Indigenous women, and strengthen community cohesion and leadership while preserving traditional artisanal practices.
