One of the main factors contributing to the high incidence of neonatal and maternal tetanus and sepsis is that most deliveries take place under unclean circumstances. Globally, each year an estimated 60 million women give birth with either no help or the assiatance of an untrained birth attendant or family member. The Lifesaving intervention project taking place in Yobe Sate in Nigeria, directly addressing this challange.  This project is a 12-month project design to support pregnant women's access to quality maternal care services before, during and after delivery through distribution of lifesaving birth kits and home health counselling. The project also supports community health workers and primary health facilities through training and recruiting home health volunteers to support community maternal services. The major activities involved in this project includes distribution of lifesaving kits, training of community health workers on lifesaving skills and training of home health volunteers (birth attendants) on birth preparedness and complication readiness to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality due to sepsis and other related birth complications.
