About this Project

Project Launch: 3-22-26

The initiative aims to inspire and motivate adolescent girls to value and embrace the cultural and ancestral knowledge of traditional midwives (comadronas), recognizing it as a pathway for community service. It is expected that some of them will train as young midwives, thereby strengthening the social fabric and providing support from a culturally meaningful perspective. The project seeks to transform the community through gatherings between adolescents and ancestral midwives, fostering intergenerational dialogue that strengthens cultural identity and social cohesion. Its main impact will be the prevention of early pregnancies by transmitting reproductive health knowledge through a culturally relevant approach that reinforces young women’s confidence and sense of responsibility. It also revitalizes the role of midwives, dignifying their wisdom and strengthening their capacity to serve by providing childbirth-related medical equipment, especially in rural communities with limited access to healthcare.

The project will train new community leaders, ensuring the continuity of ancestral knowledge and promoting intergenerational female leadership. In this way, adolescent girls can become guardians of health, land, and life, expanding women’s participation in local decision-making. Additionally, the project creates a multiplier effect: young women become messengers of prevention and care, influencing their families and the broader community, while honoring the living legacy of elder midwives and consolidating a sustainable, culturally rooted model of care.
