Building on the community’s commitment to youth empowerment, the Ntchenachena Telecenter will utilize $9,995.43 in Mudzi Connect grant funds to be transformed into a Digital Skills and Remote Jobs Hub that equips 30 rural youth in Rumphi District with practical digital competencies. The project will utilize newly installed Starlink internet, 30 desktop computers, and a mini-library of 200 technical manuals to deliver structured training in data entry, website development, graphic design, and AI data labeling. Participants will be connected to global freelance platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr, enabling them to secure remote work opportunities. To ensure sustainability, the hub will offer revenue-generating services including printing, scanning, mobile money, and internet access, while a “Train-the-Trainer” program will certify five youth as future instructors. Through this intervention, the Ntchenachena Digital Skills and Remote Jobs Hub will reduce unemployment and establish a lasting platform for digital innovation in Rumphi District.
The Nexus, a digital remote work hub based in Mzuzu, Malawi, has made significant progress in empowering youth in underserved communities of the Northern Region, starting with Rumphi District, by providing dignified, paid digital work opportunities. Utilizing 60% of its Mudzi Connect funding, the project has procured, installed, and made fully operational 12 desktop computers, along with a laptop for coordination and a tablet for monitoring and communication. High-speed internet has been established, and the center has been renovated with fresh paint to create a conducive learning environment. Additionally, a repaired copier is now functional and has generated $41.09 in income. The project has enrolled 24 youths and aims to train 60 annually once fully implemented, marking a strong step toward building a sustainable platform that fosters economic growth and digital inclusion in the region.
