With support from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2010, the Pro-Library Committee (PLC) of Silahua, Peru was able to construct a new, sturdy, permanent, and sustainable building to house the community’s library – The Creativity and Education Center of Silahuá. The grant funds were utilized to purchase construction materials. In return, the PLC organized a community contribution of the manual labor necessary to build the library building. The new library is now a regular resource for community education, providing both kids and adults with access to computers and books. It has developed a strong partnership with the local schools, allowing teachers to utilize the library’s resources as well. Kids have been put in charge of the planning and daily operations at the library, ensuring it will be a community managed and sustained center for years to come.
