COVID-19: Food Support for Indigenous Families
Project Launch: 6-16-20
Indigenous populations in Paraguay historically have poor access to quality health care, essential services, and personal protective equipment. Government shutdowns and the loss of traditional lands and territories contribute to serious food insecurity. World Connect partner and women-led local organization, Ogami, launched the "United for the Indigenous" campaign which consists of collecting non-perishable food in order to assemble food kits for indigenous families in the Department of Amambay. This World Connect grant will provide 15 indigenous families with packages of rice, flour, oil, salt, sugar, beans, bread, and coconut soap for two months. The Paraguayan Institute for Indigenous (INDI) has agreed to support in identifying the most vulnerable communities, logistics and transportation, and safety and precautionary measures.
