Project Launch:

Yayantique is a community in El Salvador that is around 300 meters above sea level on a hill that overlooks the city of San Miguel. Its climate is hot and dry with about 2,000 people in the town and about 7,000 in the municipality. The environmental group, Guardianes Ambientales is a recently formed student group working on a variety of project such as reforestation, trash management, and recycled art. With a $306 grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2011, students and school officials increased their knowledge and practices around trash management and environmental awareness through recycling. Not only were the participating kids even more full of energy and enthusiasm and ideas as a result of the program, they and their school became even more committed to improving their environment.
