Blantyre Arts Festival Community COVID-19 Response
Project Launch: 7-22-20
Through this project, Blantyre Arts Festival will provide COVID-19 prevention education and interventions for 9,200 people. The project will include the installation of 37 handwashing stations in markets, maize mills, and trading centers across three communities. In addition, market committees will provide bars of soap, household cleaning supplies, and buckets to support families' hygiene needs.
Project Update:
Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF) has through this project distributed and installed thirty-seven (37) handwashing stations in Mombo, Chatha, Dziwe and Chikuli trading market centers. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) preventive equipment includes thirty-seven, 20 and 10-liter plastic buckets, thirty-seven metal bucket stands, forty liters of chlorine and tablets of soap. The project conducted a COVID-19 awareness campaign prior to distributing the handwashing stations which enabled over 12,000 community members to have knowledge on how to use the equipment. Mr Chitani Mwale, 67 years old expressed happiness with the project stating, “As a market and a community leader I am very glad that the community will be able to prevent itself from this COVID-19 global crisis through this project”.
