Allismanta Yachakuqkuna! (Excellent Readers!)
Year: 2010
Country: Peru
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $481.89
Project Launch:
In the community of Collón, Peru, the women wear traditional colorful dresses called 'polleras' and the men devote their days to working in the fields and raising animals. Before World Connect supported the Allismanta Yachakuqkuna project with a $482 grant from its Kids to Kids Program in 2010, the kids had no books to read. The community approached World Connect with their interest in starting a community library that would allow all of the kids in Collón have the opportunity to read. With this grant, a library was established in the local primary school, shelves were constructed, books were purchased, and a world map mural was painted on the wall. The school ensured the library’s sustainability by making funds available to hire a librarian, who now manages the space and leads reading programs with the students on a regular basis.Explore other Projects
