Action Hope Malawi: COVID-19 Response Project
Project Launch: 4-22-20
In an effort to ensure effective prevention of COVID-19 in their community, Action Hope Malawi will procure handwashing equipment and soap to set up eight handwashing stations in different public places around Zomba, Malawi. Four handwashing stations will be set up at Thondwe Health Center, two at Thondwe Police Station, and the other two at Thondwe Market. In addition to these preventive measures, the project will broadcast COVID-19 awareness messages using campaigns and a Public Address System, thereby reaching out to more people in the long run. The project, which is complementing the government's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, will impact more than 3,000 people from three communities within the two months.
Final Report: 6-19-20
In partnership with Zomba District Health Office, Action Hope Malawi has successfully conducted COVID-19 prevention education in two communities. Handwashing stations and accompanying instructions were distributed to two markets, a police station, and five churches. Over 3,500 people will use these handwashing stations regularly and over 13,000 people have received COVID-19 prevention information so far. The project is self-sustaining as chiefs, church leaders, and police were trained and will continue to disseminate information in their respective work environments.
