Achoma Youth Initiative
Year: 2011
Country: Peru
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00
Project Launch:
In rural communities like Achoma, Peru, where resources are scarce, teachers teach many school subjects even though it is not their specific area of focus and they rarely have enough educational resources for every single student in their class. With the Achoma Youth Initiative, World Connect was able to support an innovative education access project, helping the community build a better educational environment and cultivate new ways of teaching not only school subjects such as math or English, but life skills such as leadership and critical thinking. The project succeeded in developing the participating youth into competent and enterprising citizens of tomorrow, equipped to fulfill their potential. The project introduced new approaches to teaching through technology and visual materials and students were able to learn, watch and hear things in a way they had never done before. The town’s library was stocked with new, interesting books and educational audio/visual resources, permitting kids to explore their education beyond the government issued textbooks. Sports were also encouraged to promote healthy living and to teach about the importance of exercise and teamwork.Explore other Projects
