With this World Connect grant, Purple Innovations plans to promote hand washing as the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended coronavirus prevention mechanism by procuring and installing 10 washing stations and distributing locally-made soap bars in different markets in Mzuzu. Additionally, they will use its existing project structures to produce and distribute 600 reusable cloth face masks to 300 beneficiaries who include people with disabilities, poor women, and the elderly. Purple Innovation will also partner with the National Initiation for Civic Education (NICE) to conduct the COVID-19 awareness campaigns in Mzimba District using mobile vans targeting all major markets. The campaigns will be done in local languages of Tumbuka and Chichewa on messages focused on COVID-19 prevention and protection of women and girls’ rights in the homes as schools and some businesses are closed.  Over 4,000 are expected to be impacted with this intervention over the next three months.
