Tazenakht Environmental Design Green Space

Year: 2014
Country: Morocco
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Health
Project Investment: $2,000.00

Project Launch:

Tazenakht is a small town of 10,000 people in the Ouarzazete province of Morocco. The town has very little development or infrastructure. Tazenakht is a rocky desert town with a handful of scattered trees, and apart from a few individual private gardens, there is no plant life or public green spaces. The community has many challenges, such as a high school drop out rate for females, high levels of unemployment, and limited employment opportunities for youth. There are very limited creative outlets for young people, such as recreational clubs or after school programs.

This project will support the Environmental Club at the Youth Center in Tazenakht in designing a community garden and green space to be used, shared and enjoyed by the entire community. The green space will provide an opportunity for social interaction, personal reflection, exploration, relaxation and learning. Through environmental education and interactive activities, the youth will be engaged and exposed to various environmental topics. By designing and creating the green spaces, the youth will be empowered to take care of the environment and improve the natural beauty of their community.
