Project Launch:

In the Dominican Republic, there are national laws protecting women's rights. A local leader and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer have designed a series of trainings on gender equality and equity in order to inform communities of their rights and the value of balanced gender roles. Each training includes 20 hours of workshops over the course of 4-5 weeks. With the support of this World Connect grant, three groups will have access to this training, including 16-20 community leaders, education professionals, municipality representatives, and religious leaders, 60 junior high school students, and 50 horseback riding guides and tourists. The program will include a celebration trip to the Mirabal Sisters Museum in Santiago City where they will award participants certificates of completion. The goal of this project is to build more gender equity in the home, workplace, and in government.
