SEN-ECOKAF Waste Sorting and Transformation Center
Project Launch: 2-5-19
In 2019 SEN-ECOKAF, a World Connect grantee from 2015, is expanding into local schools and public institutions, with a goal to provide discounted trash collection services for 10 area schools while organizing a city-wide school trash collection competition. It also plans to implement phase two of its business growth strategy, which involves the sorting and transformation of organic and recyclable waste into marketable, sellable products. To do so it will be partnering with an area women’s group, which will oversee production of compost, artisan goods, and cleaning hard plastics to be sold to a larger recycling company. The environmental business has an ambitious goal to be recycling or repurposing 80% of the two tons of waste it collects weekly by 2020. World Connect is not fundraising for this project at the request of or on behalf of Peace Corps.
