Nedi Neswi Women's Economic Opportunity

Year: 2013
Country: Morocco
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Economic Opportunity
Project Investment: $500.00

Project Launch:

This project is a collaboration with Nedi Neswi, a women's center in the town Tissint in Morocco. Women in this community have demonstrated a strong desire to work and generate income, to provide for their families. They passionately make carpets and clothes, and they want to continue to train young girls how to make these products. With funding from World Connect, women will be able to purchase materials, like wool, to make their products and to pass on their skills. This project will also fund their transportation to markets at local villages and in the main city, Tata. This will give women the opportunity to sell their products locally, regionally and globally. The Peace Corp Volunteer collaborating on this project will train the women on small business skills and marketing, empowering them to create their own sustainable small business.

Project Update

The women were very passionate and motivated throughout the whole training. They helped teach other women in the community, culminating in the production of several beautiful wool rugs. They are currently exploring options of where to sell their designs, both locally and globally.
