Lighting the Way to a Greener Future
Project Launch: 4-18-18
This project is aimed at engaging community members in environmental issues and giving thirty families access to a sustainable and independent source of light. The participants will attend community-wide trash collections and informational trainings on recycling. Over the course of seven months, this project will install solar panels, train community members on cleaner waste management, and encourage environmental stewardship for years to come. World Connect is not fundraising for this project at the request of or on behalf of Peace Corps.
Final Report: 6-26-19
Over the course of seven months, the community ́s environmental group organized monthly environmental trainings and community trash clean-ups with support from a Peace Corps Volunteer. The trainings were focused on different topics that community members prioritized in a survey conducted at the beginning of the project. The topics included waste management, organic compost, environmental culture, the Three R ́s, and recycling tires. Participants also successfully built four recycled trash cans out of plastic bottles collected during the trash clean ups.
