Nioro du Rip is a small agricultural town located centrally in the peanut basin of Senegal. Crops produced locally include peanuts, rice, corn, millet, sorghum and beans as well as other vegetables that grow during the non-rainy season. Despite the fact that farming is the major source of income in the region, agricultural development is a slow process. Erosion control, water retention, poor pesticide and fertilizer management, and pest and disease management continuously tire agricultural resources. Along with the degradation of the environment, growing household size and climate change leave less food for more people.

With this project, World Connect will be supporting the installation of an agricultural training center at a majority women's high school in Nioro du Rip. In addition to their regular course of study, students will participate in an innovative agriculture curriculum focused on sustainable techniques, moringa production, business management and nutrition. With 600 young people trained in new agricultural methods, lessons will multiply throughout social networks for years to come.
