Year: 2011
Country: Belize
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $500.00

Project Launch:

In 2011 World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program supported Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World), an annual week-long leadership camp for girls from all around Belize. The purpose of Camp GLOW was to present girls with new opportunities outside of their communities to meet new friends of different backgrounds and cultures and to inspire them to become positive and motivating role models to their peers. Participants brought this life-changing experience back to their communities as they shared and spread the knowledge and skills they learned at camp with their peers. Camp sessions were taught by leaders throughout Belize and Peace Corps Volunteers serving in Belize. During Camp, all activities and sessions focused on 1) self-esteem, 2) self-expression and 3) self-reliance by presenting campers with new ideas, activities and challenges that enabled them to think differently and develop new ideas about their respective futures. The girls discovered the value and potential within themselves to have bright futures, and they were encouraged to develop a new level of tolerance and appreciation in a rich multicultural, multilingual environment.
