Camisas Que Chivo!!! (Shirts! How Cool!)
Country: El Salvador
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $480.00
Project Launch:San Isidro Labrador is a small municipality in El Salvador with only 550 citizens including the surrounding cantones. There is no educational institution available here beyond the 8th grade and many gifted kids lack the opportunity and encouragement to let their talent shine. San Isidro Labrador is also the 12th poorest of 263 municipalities in the country. In 2009 World Connect’s Kids to Kids program awarded a $480 grant to run a program to promote positive, constructive youth activities. Students designed shirts to promote the community’s Patron Saint Festival and money generated was used to promote future activities for the group of artisans. The goal of the project was to improve artistic skills as well as introduce new educational opportunities in computation and entrepreneurship for the participating kids. By creating an environment in which the kids could actually see the reward of their work it encouraged future creativity with newly learned skills.
