Azalagh Women's Center (Neddi)

Year: 2012
Country: Morocco
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $4,994.50

Project Launch:

In the villages of Azalagh (Imozir, Tamast, Tagzouite and Timisha), many women tend to their families and homes while their husbands work in far away urban areas. The women deal daily with the challenges of raising their children alone, and many work in the barley and cornfields to provide for their families. In spite of these challenges, the women are organized and have requested World Connect's support to construct a Neddi Neswi (Club of Women). The building will be the center of women's activity in the region, focused on microenterprise training, literacy classes, exercise clubs and health events, offering more opportunities for women.

Project Update

The Center has been completed and hosts various activities, such as Arabic, sewing, dance, yoga, English, and weekly literacy classes. The Center wants to organize more classes, particularly carpet making and other artisan crafts, to equip women with skills for future employment.
