The Search for Basic Luxuries in Soccer

Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $361.00

Project Launch: 10-28-09

In the area around the Volcano Chinchontepec in El Salvador, Central America, kids and adults in San Pedro Nonualco play soccer on a dried clay and rock filled field with orange trees and corn stalks surrounding them. The community has managed to find poles to plant in the ends of the field, but lacked any infrastructure for the sport and was unable to attract other teams and hold quality competitions with them due to the lack of necessary equipment. Teammates on the local team had two pairs of cleats that they rotated around to different players each Sunday. A $361 grant was awarded to support the Community Development Association ADESCO’s project to improve the quality of the playing field and equipment for adult and youth players.
