School-based Fluoride Treatment and Oral Health Promotion
Project Launch:
Throughout Rwanda, access to quality dental care is difficult at best. In the Kivu Sector region, there is one dental therapist who rotates from community to community, serving a population of more than 285,000. The Kivu Health Center, an ambitious community-based organization of 12 employees and 101 community health workers plans to lead a school-based dental health project that will educate and impact more than 1,300 kids. A grant from World Connect will fund daily fluoride supplements for each student as part of a well-designed pilot demonstration for the Rwandan Ministry of Health. The program will serve as the basis of an oral health curriculum to be administered by the community health workers throughout the school year.
