PYAP Kinis Livlihood Project
Project Launch:
Rosario is a low-income community located in Northern Samar in the Philippines. There are very limited employment opportunities, and young people often drop out of school to help support their families. This project will work with a group of out of school youth, train them in basic business skills, and teach them how to harvest Kinis, a type of mud crab that is considered a delicacy and an important traditional food. By harvesting crabs, the youth will generate an income, increasing the livelihoods of their families.
Project Update
Unfortunately, this project could not be completed. A category 4 typhoon struck the local area, destroying homes, local businesses, and schools. The community is working on rebuilding their lives and appreciate all the support and knowledge gained through the preliminary project design phase.
