Linking Tradition with 21st Century Literacy Skills
Project Launch:
A grant from World Connect has enabled students in the town of Ibaan, Philippines to utilize a fully renovated library and reading sanctuary on the Ibaan Central School grounds. The library is now stocked with books and educational games and will be a place for students to read and study. Meanwhile, the second building, the Bahay Kubo Nipa Hut (a traditional Filipino house), has been transformed into a reading sanctuary, where a larger number of students can read and where remedial reading groups are held. As of now, students are visiting the library three times a week for thirty minutes each time. Teachers at the school will be closely monitoring the impact of the new facilities on the literacy levels of students at the school throughout the school year.
