Creating Big Books for Community Literacy
Project Launch: 7-26-17
In order to continue to encourage a love of literacy in young children, the senior English students at Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus have written and illustrated Big Books. Big books are typically 24 inches x 36 inches with large typeface and pictures. These books are read aloud in class by an educator so each student in class can see both the words and the pictures in the stories. These are very effective learning tools in the Filipino context. Big books and children's books are very limited in Tuburan. This project will permit several of the the books professionally printed and distributed in local elementary schools and childcare centers in the area. Sharing a love of stories and modeling reading with children helps to cultivate a passion for learning and increases creativity and creative problem solving.
