B-Ball for Matina
Project Launch:
Along the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica sits Matina, a small town nestled in between large banana fields. Poverty is high and drug abuse, alcoholism, vandalism and teenage pregnancy are on the rise. To confront these problems, World Connect is partnering with a local community development organization to rebuild a basketball court that was badly damaged in a flood years back. The court sits at the local high school and will become a central meeting place for the community, creating a safe and fun environment where children and families can come together. The community will maintain the court by operating sports leagues and charging fees, and the high school will be building its Physical Education curriculum around the new court.
