Ambam Library Initiative
Project Launch:
With five high schools, Ambam is home to thousands of students. However, there are limited educational resources and books available to students, and without a youth center there is no educational space for students outside the classroom. In collaboration with the Mayor’s office and local and international organizations, this project will lead to the construction of a community library. The library will be stocked with more than 30,000 books, and will have a separate conference hall to host educational seminars and reading groups. The library will also have a computer lab with Internet, allowing students to conduct research and participate in computer classes. The long-term goal of the project is to monitor and improve literacy rates and computer skills training for students in Ambam.
Project Update
Construction started on February 8, 2016 and will be completed after three months. In collaboration with the Mayor, a handful of high school students, local teachers, and representatives from a local youth empowerment organization purchased the books, each varying in topic and reading level. The 30,000 books are expected to arrive in the community by April, 2016.
